Quantum Thoughts

Ubuntu Loggin to Windows Domain.

Posted on: December 5, 2008

Many colleagues and friends thinking of switching to a more human centric OS ask me ofter for tips and tricks. Having the  FOSS mentality I always try to answer as much i can.

One of their favorite is the windows drive mount how to for a corporate environment under a windows domain server.

This is actually a  piece of cake if you know what you are doing.
For starting just run

sudo apt-get install samba

if you haven’t already installed. And

sudo apt-get install smbfs

for the client part.

Then you just open your Nautilus screen and type in the url something like that.

smb://{domain_name};{user_name}@{server_name | IP}/{drive allias | specific folder on C}

for instance in my case I type

smb://iknowhow;doxaras@clstnode3/d$/

Enjoy !!
